Soft Pretzels!

These are easy, delicious, and perfect for game day! (Or any day, really)

Recipe

1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast

1 cup warm water (about 110 degrees °F)

2 tbsp softened butter

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/2 tsp salt

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Baking Soda Solution:

1 cups water

1/8 cup baking soda

Topping:

Melted butter (about 2 tbsp)

Coarse salt (I used kosher salt)

Place the yeast and warm water in the bowl of your stand mixer. Let it dissolve for about 2 minutes. Once dissolved, add in the butter, brown sugar, salt, and 2 cups of the flour. Using a dough hook attachment, mix on medium-low speed until dough is smooth. Stir in remaining flour until dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Place in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise in a warm place for 20 minutes.

Preheat oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone liner.

Punch the dough down a couple times to break up any air pockets. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope. Shape the dough into a pretzel shape.

In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium heat. Add in the baking soda; mixture will bubble a lot for a minute. Drop a pretzel into the boiling water using a slotted spatula. Let boil for a few seconds, then gently remove with the spatula, allowing excess water to drip off. Place on the baking sheets and reshape if needed. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Repeat with all pretzels.

Bake the pretzels for about 10 minutes until golden brown on top. Brush with melted butter while hot. Add more salt if wanted.

Enjoy!
